Here at Dr. Laura Clinic we believe in skincare backed by science, and the same goes for our treatments. Thats why we are delighted to talk today about the Secret by Cutera, a powerful platform with two clinically proven modalities, radiofrequency microneedling and CO2 laser. Both of these treatment modalities have numerous papers and studies behind them stating the efficacy of the treatment and the Secret by Cutera PRO device is the first on the market to combine these two modalities. In the quest for flawless, youthful skin, the world of skincare treatments is ever-evolving. The Secret PRO is garnering serious attention over the last few years for its exceptional results and is found in famous dermatology offices all over the world.

So what is Secret PRO and how exactly does it work?

Secret pro combines fractional CO2 and radiofrequency in one single device, enabling us to treat the full depth of the skin in one treatment with significantly less downtime than older devices. The radio frequency microneedling allows for dermal remodelling while the CO2 works to resurface the epidermis. This allows us to take a multi- dimensional approach to anti-ageing and skin revitalisation.

So what is RF microneedling?

Micro-Needling: The device uses tiny, sterile needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin's surface. These micro-injuries stimulate the skin's natural healing process, promoting the production of collagen and elastin.
Radiofrequency Energy: Simultaneously, the Secret PRO delivers RF energy deep into the skin. This thermal energy further enhances collagen production and tightens the skin.

What exactly is CO2 laser?

CO2 laser treatment, or carbon dioxide laser treatment, is a medical procedure that uses a carbon dioxide laser to resurface the skin. This type of laser is often used for various dermatological and cosmetic purposes, primarily to address skin imperfections, signs of aging, and certain medical conditions.

How does CO2 laser work?
CO2 laser works by fractionally (meaning a portion of skin is unaffected versus fully ablative) ablating (burning) the targeted skin tissue, layer by layer. This controlled removal of skin cells prompts the body’s natural healing process.CO2 is unlike no other laser in that the heat from the laser also stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, proteins responsible for skin elasticity and firmness. This collagen remodelling process leads to smoother firmer skin over time.

CO2 laser treatment is widely used in medical dermatology, for skin resurfacing to address various skin concerns, including

Wrinkles and fine lines
Sun damage and age spots
Acne scars
Uneven skin texture and tone
Skin laxity (sagging skin)
Enlarged pores

CO2 lasers can also be used to treat certain medical conditions such as:
Actinic keratoses (precancerous skin growths)
Skin tumors
Some types of warts
Rhinophyma (a condition causing enlargement of the nose tissue)

There are 2 different types of CO2 Lasers used in medical and cosmetic procedures.

Traditional CO2 Lasers: These lasers emit a continuous wave of light, allowing for precise and deep skin ablation. While highly effective, they also require more downtime and recovery.

Fractionated CO2 Lasers: Fractional CO2 lasers divide the laser beam into thousands of tiny, evenly spaced microbeams. This fractional approach leaves small areas of untreated skin between the treated areas, which accelerates the healing process and reduces downtime. Fractional CO2 lasers are often preferred for cosmetic purposes. Secret PRO by Cutera is a fractionated laser treatment and this is what is used at Dr. Laura Clinic.

Laser after care

Looking after your skin post laser treatment is extremely important. In clinic we will give you a post laser treatment kit to use in the days following CO2. After that you can use gentle cleansers and moisturisers with a good quality SPF to nourish and protect the skin.
