There is no right or wrong age to start wrinkle relaxers. It very much depends on the patient in front of you. Ageing starts to show from the age of 25, but some patients for example will have lines much earlier than this due to genetic factors. The first signs of ageing are the crows feet (lines around the eyes) as well as across the forehead and the frown lines between the eyebrows. As soon as you are seeing lines, you can start treating. We tend to use wrinkle relaxers to smooth wrinkles from around 20 to 60 years of age. It works best in patients that have dynamic lines ( lines made my movement) as opposed to lines caused by sun damage or loose skin. Preventative botox means using wrinkle relaxers to prevent the development of permanent deep wrinkles or lines. They absolutely can have a preventative effect and can be commenced for this reason earlier in life before lines are visible. Its best not to wait until your wrinkles or lines are deeply etched on the face, as they will be more difficult to treat.

Yes all patients must start with a consultation with Dr. Laura prior to any treatments. This is to allow for the best plan for you and your skin to reach your skincare goals. We do offer a new consultation with anti wrinkle injections however if you are not suitable Dr. Laura will suggest alternative treatment.

Results begin to be seen by days 3-5 but final results are not seen until 2 weeks post treatment. We offer a review at this stage to evaluate the results and perform any tweakments that might be required.

For most, as mentioned above the results will last 3-4 months. However runners or patient who train a lot tend to metabolise Botulinum Toxin A at a faster rate. Botox starts to be broken down by the body at week 7/8 weeks post treatment and at this stage you might start to see a gradual increase in movement. The good news is however, that with repeated doses the lines and wrinkles can often become less sever as the mussels are being trained to relax. We recommend repeat treatment every 4-6 months as this allows for more natural results.

We usually recommend having treatments every 4-6 months. Studies tell us that anti wrinkle injections begin to take effect by the 2 week mark and last for us to 3 months, but sometimes longer. Some patents will not need to return until 5-6 months post treatment. We recommend not letting the deep lines etch into the skin again. When you start to feel the movement increases and just as the lines are starting to appear again is the best time to return.

No, you can stop at any stage, but most patients love their results so much they can’t imagine stopping.

No there is very little to no downtime. After the treatment you will have small bumps in the treated area for about 20 minutes, but otherwise no downtime.

Please make a ‘top-up’ review appointment in 2-3 weeks time. The effects/benefits of a Botox treatment reach their maximum about 2 weeks following treatment. Therefore treatment result is assessed at this appointment. There may still be some undesired movement, lines or asymmetry that needs to be corrected, so a complimentary ‘topup’ treatment is given to achieve the best possible clinical correction to the treated area(s), based on the musculature of your face. It is important to understand that there is no ‘standard dose’ for a Botox treatment. A personal prescription for treatment is reached by assessing your face, the size and position of your facial muscles as well as the way the muscles move in relation to one another. This personal prescription will form the basis of your next treatment so assess how this treatment lasts as adjustments can be made at your next treatment appointment in 3-4 months.

Review appointments for Botox adjustments cannot be made later than 3 weeks following treatment and subsequent treatment appointments cannot be sooner than 3 months due to the risk of anti-body formation which can result in resistance to treatment.
