What is Hyaluronic Acid?
To those of you just starting out on your skincare journey, I must admit that yes, when you first hear the word Hyaluronic Acid, it sounds scary, almost like something you wouldn’t want to put near your face, however it has so many wonderful benefits. This iconic skincare ingredient which can be found in your favourite serums, sheet masks, and moisturisers, should be an essential part of your everyday skincare routine. This game changing product, which is a molecule that occurs naturally in the skin, binds to water to plump up your skin and give it that healthy, glowy effect.
As I mentioned previously, it’s a treat that Hyaluronic Acid is naturally present in our skin, however the down side to that is as we age, our rate of Hyaluronic Acid production decreases overtime so our skin struggles to replenish itself as easily as it used to. Many people would say that this is why it’s labelled to be an anti-ageing ingredient, although I would say it’s beneficial for you no matter what age you are.
Let’s delve a little deeper now and have a chat about what exactly this hero product does for our skin…..
If your skin is struggling at the moment and needs that extra bit of tender love and care, topical hyaluronic acid products will be your new skincare saviour mainly due to the fact that it is a magnet for its moisturising capabilities. If you’re not using products in your skincare routine that replenishes and restores your natural skincare barrier, your skin will unfortunately not hold enough of its own moisture. This is where Hyaluronic Acid comes in. If you’re using the correct type of Hyaluronic Acid in a serum for instance, it can work deep into the skin and hydrate it at its very lower layers which is something that our typical day to day moisturisers can’t do mainly because of the size of their molecules.
Here’s a fun fact for you! Did you know that a single gram of hyaluronic acid has the impressive ability to hold up to six litres of water? Yes, six whole litres! It also has the ability to regulate that moisture within our skin cells, so they don’t become overwhelmed and drown.
There are also other forms of hyaluronic acid in products that can plump up your skin, giving you a youthful glowy appearance, and this my friends, is why it is widely known for its use in fillers! Hyaluronic Acid also works as an antioxidant on the skin to protect it from the harmful free radical damage that tends to speed up the aging process.
Here at the clinic, we are lucky to be able to offer a wide selection of beautiful Hyaluronic Acid products, and speaking of which, here are a few of my faves….

Here at the skin clinic we are also delighted to be introducing Profhilo to our list of treatments! Experience the luxury of smooth and rejuvenated skin with this game changing treatment that remodels and boosts the skin on the face, neck or décolletage. With one of the most concentrated hyaluronic acid formulas on the market (an incredible 2ml), this injectable penetrates deeply into your skin to improve sagging skin and ageing. Profhilo is unlike any other type of injectable or filler simply because it has a consistency that is more like a gel, making it ideal for use on extremely delicate areas of the face.
Did I also mention that it is a super quick and straightforward process? The treatment itself should take around 15 minutes and is injected underneath the skin with a needle into 10 different areas of the body that have been strategically predetermined to produce even results. For the best possible results, we recommend that you receive two treatments of Profhilo, roughly about a month apart.
Trust me when I say you will most certainly notice a difference in your skin after you’re finished your first treatment. Appointments will be available soon so do keep an eye out on our socials and here on our website for updates.
